Wellness dog food creating more stools?

I know this is an odd question but I have always heard that your higher end dog foods would create smaller or fewer stools. Well my little dog is just the opposite since I switched to Wellness lamb and rice.. He has been going twice as much now than he did on a cheaper dog food. Anyone have an answer why this is happening?Wellness dog food creating more stools?
Did you reduce the quantity of food you are feeding him when you switched to Wellness? Less of a more nutrient-dense food is required, since there is less filler. I don't quite know why this is, but if you feed the correct amount the dog will produce a certain amount of stools... if you feed just a little bit more than the dog needs, the dog will produce a LOT more stools.Wellness dog food creating more stools?
You are right. The higher quality food should produce less stool because more nutrients are being absorbed and their is less indigestible or unusable content in the higher quality food. It is important to remember though that each dog is an individual, so one food that is great for one dog, may only be ok for another. I wouldn't recommend going back to the cheap brand if the cheap brand is lower quality, but if in a few months (after your dogs body should have adjusted to the new food) the stools have not decreased in size and frequency and are still more than with the cheaper food, then I'd suggest looking for a different food.

That being said, I lived with someone with a small breed dog on Wellness and I have a medium sized dog that weighs more than twice what her dog weighs and I feed raw food. I always noticed that her dog's stools were larger (which was always funny when you looked at the size of the two dogs) and her dog had many bowel movements a day (more than four a day), where my dog had one, maybe two bowel movements. So I'm not sure if this is because of the high quality of my dog's food, her dog not being able to use the nutrients in Wellness as well as he should have, or if maybe Wellness isn't as high quality as we all think it is. So you saying that your dog is also having more stool makes me wonder a little.

So I guess I got a little side-tracked there, but basically, give your dog a little while to adjust to the new food. If in a month the stools are still larger or more frequent, then you may want to think about finding a different food.

Good luck!
well its a new food. his digestive system isnt used to it. buy another bage of the cheaper stuff you usd to get and mix it together for a while just add a little less each time of the old stuff. start with 75percent old food and 25 new food for a couple of days then decrease in a couple of days. just keep decreaseing every couple of days or so.if this dosen't help then stay with your old dog. it won't hurt him any plus you'll save money.
