I am really into languages and this has been a hobby of mine for several years. However, I am concerned that this might come off as off-puttingly geeky to other people rather than interesting and imaginative. I know that J.R.R. Tolkien made his own languages, but even he was hesitant to share this hobby with others, calling it his ';secret vice.';Is conlanging (creating your own languages) inexcusably nerdy?
Make your own codewords that you can share with friends or for your private notes, but making your own language eventually proves to be a waste of time... and very nerdy. It's already enough work just to learn a real language. Is conlanging (creating your own languages) inexcusably nerdy?
Go ahead! If you like it, well then do it!
As long as it keeps the kids off drugs, I say go for it.
