I need help creating an excel formula to count number of times a number shows up.

I have columns with text (ex. column A, apple, grape, orange), columns b onwards have numbers from 1 through 5, at the end of each row I need to count how many times each number was in the field (for ex. 5 occurred 10 times, 4 occurred 8 times, etc...)I need help creating an excel formula to count number of times a number shows up.
I'm not totally sure I understand your question, but it sounds as if COUNTIF would work for you.I need help creating an excel formula to count number of times a number shows up.
use the ';pivot table'; feature of excel. It's perfect to do exactly what you want. The pivot table ';wizard'; will walk you through setting it up (or press F1 for help and look at the pivot table help screens)
at the bottom of your column of data, type;

=countif(a2:A55,';=5';).

this will count numbr of times A column is equal to 5.

try using vba for that
